Very early every Saturday morning the city of Riobamba fills up with thousands of people who come from all around the province and even from all around the country to buy and sell all types of produce. The squares, markets, parks, streets, restaurants and shops come alive. They fill up with country people and regulars that bring and buy produce – everything from necessities to medicines, clothing to tools or simply they come to enjoy, visit the city or meet friends. In the squares of La Concepcion, San Alfonso, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, La Condamine, Guayaquil Street and La 10 de Agosto you can hear a diverse range of dialects and observe the wonderful traditional dress of the various indigenous people. The city is filled with warmth and kindness, in the parks traditional photographers capture the images of the recent arrivals, whilst street theatre players and popular singers show off their talent and abilities. |
